Sixth form students meet Rosie Duffield MP

Making Politics Matter – 'CANTERBURY 2017 WHY LABOUR WON'

Recently, Year 12 and 13 students (and one keen year 10) from politics, sociology and law had the opportunity to attend a political event at Canterbury Christ Church University.

In addition to Rosie Duffield, the local MP for Canterbury and Whitstable, the event was attended by political editor for the Kent Messenger Group, Paul Francis, Momentum activist Ben Hickman and Clare Connerton who organised the social media campaign CanterburyNotConservative. The debate was chaired by Canterbury resident and Birkbeck, University of London lecturer Dr Ben Worthy.

The panel answered questions from the audience and touched on a range of issues, including the profile of women in politics and the impact of social media on political participation; This carried real relevance for these students, not only in bringing aspects of their course content to life but for many it was their first visit to a higher learning institution. The students were a credit to the Academy and

conducted themselves impeccably.
