Martial Arts at The Canterbury High School

We are very fortunate to have a partnership with Matt Fiddes Martial Arts. The Matt Fiddes Kent Group provide a variety of sessions that mix both traditional Martial Arts tuition, self-defence, physical fitness and all the benefits associated with these.

The curriculum Martial Arts classes for years 7-10 include a variety of Martial Arts disciplines with fitness and practical self-defence for that age group, giving the students an awareness for staying safe along with engaging them in physical activity.

The provision of Martial Arts extends to the Canterbury Primary School where we deliver an after school session for KS1 & 2 – giving the children a taste of basic Martial Arts techniques and using Martial Arts to teach them valuable life-skills such as concentration, respect and self-control.  With this positive engagement the aim is to use Martial Arts to teach the children how they can be “Black Belts” at home and at school.

In addition to curriculum PE we have been delivering Anger Management sessions to years 8-11; using the mental skills and disciplines to help set goals, develop accountability and give the students confidence to engage in a positive and rewarding way.  This is also a session where the students can feel confident enough to express any frustrations and release any tensions in a controlled way, giving them a manageable outlet for their anger whilst learning how to recognise it and manage it in the future.
