Children’s University is a national organisation that provides children with exciting and informal learning experiences outside of school hours.

The Canterbury Academy is a hub school of Kent Children’s University. We run a variety of activities accredited by Kent Children's University - from our clubs and holiday activities to our Saturday morning activities, which are open to children from all schools in Canterbury and beyond.

Saturday morning activities take place between 9.30am - 12 noon during term time. There are 5 modules in an academic year and four weeks in each module. Children choose from the courses on offer which one they will attend for these four weeks. Our Saturday morning activities are open to children aged 7-14 years old.

What can you do in a Children's University Club?

GO PLACES WITH A 'PASSPORT TO LEARNING'

The 'Passport to Learning' is just like a real passport... Instead of travelling abroad, it supports children as they 'travel' to different 'Learning Destinations'. Learning Destinations are places of interest locally and nationally, such as Canterbury Cathedral, Howletts Zoo, Chatham Dockyards, Dover Castle and many, many more.

As Children's University members, children use their 'Passport to Learning' to record the hours they spend taking part in Children's University accredited activities. Each activity they attend, they record and have stamped in their passports.

Children can earn hours for their passports by attending clubs and holiday activities at The Canterbury Campus, Saturday morning modules and Learning Destinations.

A full list of KCU Learning Destinations is available here. Children aged 5-6 can attend Learning Destinations with their families.

GRADUATION CEREMONY

Every year, The Canterbury Academy holds a Graduation Ceremony, supported by Kent Children's University, where children receive certificates to recognise their efforts.

Children receive certificates, have the opportunity to have their photograph taken in full graduation outfits and enjoy a children's tea party afterwards.

Parents - make sure you have shared up to date information about the hours your children have earned so that they receive the correct certificate/s. Please see below for certificate levels.
