SCHOOL DIRECT

School Direct is a school based, practical and hands on training route into the teaching profession.

You follow a professional studies programme and will be supported to improve your classroom skills so that you will be confident and prepared to start teaching whole classes only when ready.

There are two routes to choose from. The first is The School Direct Training Programme aimed at high-quality graduates who want to be part of a school team from day one. Applicants may be eligible for a bursary to support them while they train.

The second is The Salaried School Direct Training Programme which is an employment-based route for high-quality graduates with at least three years’ work experience. As the name implies colleagues will earn a salary.

The Canterbury Academy is committed to providing the best training and has well deserved reputation for excellence.

We provide a clear structured and individualised programme including effective support systems; a professional studies programme sessions to develop subject and pedagogical knowledge ensuring that trainees meet the teaching standards; a time allocation to allow trainees the opportunities to observe others and a realistic teaching timetable; and, a clear structure assessing progress against grading criteria to identify strengths and set individualised targets to enable the trainee to reach ever higher standards.

We work in partnership with the East Kent Learning Alliance (EKLA). Please visit their website for the School Direct eligibility criteria and details about the two training routes available to you.

This is intended to provide work experience as a stepping stone for those considering working in education or for those who want experience for employment.

This will provide you with professional development opportunities that will help you decide whether working in the education sector is for you or will better prepare you so to do.

Possible focus areas are:

We can offer full or part time internships, usually lasting 6–12 weeks, but we are flexible and so can be shorter or longer, depending on the need of the individual.

If you wish to come and have a look at us then please feel free to ring the school and arrange a time and make an appointment to see the academy and discuss the possibilities of an internship.
