SENIOR SCHOOL

The senior school at The Canterbury Academy has over 400 students. In it students study for their GCSE examinations and qualifications and plan for their progress into the sixth form.

All students will study a core of mathematics, English, science and history or geography (some may do both) and students in our grammar school are expected to study at least one foreign language. A history of ideas programme, as an academic enhancement, will be offered and students in our grammar school will be expected to participate in this as preparation for Russell Group application.

Students will have option choices. These options will enable students to choose a pathway which will mirror the school’s pillars of excellence and comprehensive ethos. Some students will wish to peruse the academic pathway; some students will pursue a sporting pathway; some will pursue a pathway on performing arts; and, others will pursue a pathway in practical learning and enterprise education. Some students will mix and match. Some students will have highly personalised timetables either because they are highly gifted and talented in something or because they may need additional support.

Success in the senior school will determine what programmes our students follow in the sixth form.
