Students participate in Model UN conference

India gets their way.

On Thursday 12th October six of our most able and articulate year 11 s were invited to the Model United Nations conference at Kings School. Equipped with their own laptops and resolutions for India, Australia and Venezuela the Year 11s had to negotiate issues around HIV and poverty in the developing world. Not only did our students give one minute country speeches but they were very active in the subcommittees around World Health and economic and Social Affairs. Mrs Jones, who kindly accompanied the Year 11s was particularly impressed with the negotiating and deal making skills of our Indian delegation. She commented;

'Our students truly excelled in lively and fierce debates, going toe to toe academically with experienced Model United Nations students, and winning!'

The Canterbury Academy’s teams not only had their resolutions agreed to by each of their Councils, but also passed by majority consensus at the General Assembly.

Once again up against predominantly private and grammar schools our students shone and showed their scholastic aptitude and ability to respond to pressure.

Please congratulate these students on an outstanding performance and their representation of the school.
