Students benefit from sports leader training workshop

On Thursday 14th September, we hosted the first Canterbury Academy Sports Partnership Leadership training event. Students across Key Stage 3 volunteered for the session which was a mixture of theory and practical.

Working in small groups, the students were asked to consider the qualities needed for effective leadership and present them to the group. They also played games exploring verbal and nonverbal communication. They then used their numeracy skills to calculate the results of a tournament and were asked to role play scenarios that included being a referee, an angry coach, an injured pupil and a pushy parent. This enabled them to evaluate their perception and management of the situation.

The following students all participated and have been accepted onto the leadership programme for 2017/18.
