Under 15 Cricket team lose to Langley Park in County Final

On a very hot day which proved tough for bowlers of both sides, our under 15 cricket team lost by 8 wickets to a strong Langley Park School from Beckenham. The Canterbury High side started in positive fashion with Bradley Goldsack and Harry Divers playing well against the pace attack of Langley. Divers was first to go when he was caught and bowled by the left arm spinner with the score on 47. Jordan Gillmore narrowly avoided being bowled second ball before embarking on a brilliant 101 run partnership with Goldsack. Both players timed the ball beautifully and punished any wayward bowling. Gillmore, in particular, accelerated well and hit a massive six towards the end of the innings. Langley Park fielded superbly on a very dry and quick outfield and this ultimately proved to be a key difference in the game.

Gillmore made 68 before being run out off the last ball of the innings and Goldsack remained unbeaten on 53. A score of 148 for 2 off 20 overs was impressive.

Langley Park started their innings superbly with 16 runs coming off the opening over. Unfortunately, the Canterbury High bowlers never really regained any control after that with Harrison Pack struggling for direction early on. Adam Aitken and Joe Coleman both grabbed a wicket which put a halt to some very positive batting but a fine third wicket partnership meant Langley Park cruised home with 15 balls to spare. The better team had won but we had worked hard during the game and accepted the defeat with dignity and grace.

Please congratulate these students when you see them. Their journey to the final included victories against three grammar schools and Kent College. They have improved beyond recognition as a team and hopefully, their success this season can motivate them to do well next year.
