Canterbury Dance Programme compete in prestigious final!

Last Friday, the Dance Programme competed at London’s Excel Centre in Move It 2017 – the largest dance and performing arts conference in the UK.

From over 300 applicants in January, our students were one of 54 steams elected to perform in the live competition. On Friday morning, they competed in Round 1 against 27 other acts from the top dance schools in the country, making it through into the semi-final.

In the semi-final later that afternoon, they competed against the top 14 remaining acts. Our talented dancers listened to the feedback from the panel of celebrity judges (including Jennifer Ellison), and improved their performance accordingly, ultimately winning a spot in the final.

Though the students continued to gave their all, and their performance (and conduct) was exemplary, they sadly did not win the final round; however, after the competition they were visited backstage by the Director of Move It, who was so impressed that they offered them a slot to perform on the prestigious Main Stage at Move It 2018! These slots are only reserved for the top stage schools and performing arts university programmes in the UK, so it is safe to say that our 6th Form Dance Programme at the Canterbury Academy is starting to be recognised at a very elite national level!
