Year 11 Basketball win tight game against Barking Abbey

The Year 11 basketball team took on Barking Abbey yesterday. Barking are the country's leading basketball academy. After a very competitive game during which the lead would change a number of times, Canterbury High came out on top and won 88-86. This is a fantastic achievement which is well deserved due to the hard work from students and staff since September.

Mate Okros scored 44 points to lead the team in scoring and crucially, made back to back three pointers in the last minute. Will Raife, who joined the Elite Junior Basketball Academy only this month from Essex, scored 14 points. Segun Shodunke also contributed brilliantly by playing the whole game and netting 14 points as well.

Several students and staff involved in this match will be representing England at the end of this month. Mate Okros and Segun Shodunke will be part of the England U16 National Team Camp. Coach Adam Davies has been appointed as the lead assistant for the same team with Billy Beddow joining them as apprentice coach. School physio Mark Dayson and Strength and Conditioning coach Toni Kesisoglou also have roles with other national teams. This underlines and demonstrates the highly qualified and nationally recognised support staff we have in place here at the school.

Please congratulate the members of our Year 11 basketball team when you see them around the school.
