Year 8 Regional Cricket Success

A team of year 7 and year 8 cricketers travelled to Chelmsford on Monday to play in a regional 8-a-side cricket tournament. The team performed exceptionally well and won all of their games meaning they now have an opportunity to represent their region in the national finals in September. The national competition excludes independent schools and prohibits teams from selecting county players in their line-up.

Two of the games ended up as convincing victories but the crunch game against a strong side from Surrey was a hard fought battle and one that was turned by a brilliant bowling performance from captain, Freddie Adams. With the game in the balance, Freddie bowled an excellent over of leg spin that went for two runs and included a key wicket.

Frankie Youll then bowled another impressive over to secure the win.

There were impressive batting performances from Jordan Gillmore and Charlie Tucker. Adam Aitken and Kayden Dennis had a crucial partnership in the second game.

The national final is due to take place in early September and the planned venue is Edgbaston Cricket Ground. This is an international venue and so this could be an amazing experience for the students if this is confirmed.

Please congratulate the boys when you see them this week.
