Bicycle Project and Sponsorship Opportunity

As part of the alternative curriculum provision at Riverside, Steve Sproston runs a bicycle project – you may recall me asking for donations in the past. This has escalated beyond that which we imagined and we are now in possession of over 150 bicycles in all sizes and conditions. The students are working on them regularly to get them back into working order and donating them to people who need them. The most notable being a young boy who had his brand new bike stolen just days after Christmas and another who was having attendance issues at school, but now uses his bike to get to school.

Steve had the (bright!) idea of entering a team into the London to Brighton bike ride, using bikes that have been recycled in the project by the students. Sean Kemp in Year 11 jumped at the idea and is now in regular early-morning (6am!) training with Steve and Will Johnston to prepare for the 54-mile ride in aid of British Heart Foundation on Sunday 19th June 2016 (Click HERE for more information). Lifestyle Fitness have provided Sean with free use of the gym with Steve and Will to aid with the training.

Those of you who know Sean, will also know that he hasn’t found school to be comfortable, successful or rewarding, but this project alone, has enabled him to achieve success, feel special, raise his confidence and above all else, be happy and healthy. Upon completion, Steve is going to frame his team shirt along with his medal to donate to Sean as a memento of his wonderful achievement. Keep an eye on the local press in the coming weeks for more about the project and this story.

If you can spare any change to sponsor the team, it would be greatly appreciated. Please visit the JustGiving page HERE or see Steve, Will, Sean or me directly.
