Important Traffic Information

Information for Parents and other visitors to The Canterbury High School

The Canterbury Academy’s 2 schools – The Canterbury Primary School and The Canterbury High School – are both growing.

On both sites there is increased traffic from staff and parents. On The Canterbury High School site there is also traffic caused by visitors to The Sports Centre and visitors to Adult Education.

A situation in which there are moving vehicles in an area with over 1000 children is inherently dangerous. This danger is increased when vehicles go too fast or when drivers are witnessed talking on their mobile phones.

Moreover, in the near future it is expected that significant building work will commence at The Canterbury Academy on The Canterbury High School site and this will bring more traffic on site.

Thus, in an attempt to manage the traffic flow and to reinforce basic safety we are asking that

  1. Children walk to school wherever possible

  1. All drivers observe a 5 mile/hour speed limit on site (at some point in the future there will be additional ‘sleeping policemen’ put down )

  1. We ask that no traffic uses the road way which runs up to The Enterprise and Employability College. In fact, as of Monday 29th April, this road way will be closed to vehicles at 8.30am and only re-opened at 3.00pm.

I know that you will understand the reasons for these requests. We thank you for your help in keeping the site safe.
