'Swish of the curtain' for year 5 students

On Monday of this week, our CHS Performing Arts Department launched the pilot for it’s ‘Swish of the Curtain’ initiative, bringing West End polish to CPS students’ topic assemblies.

Year 5 (Churchill Class) were the first on the scheme, with their presentation on ‘Moving People’. Taking us on a journey from prehistoric migration to the current refugee crises, Year 5 were coached, guided and directed on a weekly basis by Performing Arts staff, in conjunction with their teacher Ms Higgins. Two devised plays (one about prehistoric man, the other about the Vikings), a Horrible History-esqe re-write of ‘Bills’ by Lunchmoney Lewis, and a somber powerpoint on current events were all created and rehearsed to a high standard over the term. This culminated in the performance for parents on Monday morning.

Deputy Head Craig May said, "A huge congratulations to everyone in Year 5 for their wonderful class assembly. It was amazing to see so many children grow in confidence and perform to an audience. Their singing, acting and overall performing skills have improved and many parents told me how proud they were of their children and the school.”

This new programme will be rolled out termly, to a different CPS class every term, and eventually to other Primaries in the area.

Well done to Year 5!
