Try Angle Award

The 21st Try Angle Awards for Thanet, Canterbury and Swale were held at the Seasalter Centre on Monday and such was the contribution of staff and students that it could easily have been dubbed the Canterbury Academy Awards.

Thanks must begin with the staff who made nominations back in April and to Adam Fairbrass for promoting Try Angle in morning briefings.

On the night, Academy students won 4 of the 8 awards for the Canterbury District;

Personal Achievement in the Arts – Maizy Theze

Personal Achievement in Music – Daniel Harris

Good Friends and Young Carers – Jack Cook

Courage – Chloey Marshall

A big thank you to Sally Childs and Becky Huckle for supporting the students on the night.

The Academy provided 3 of the 4 entertainment Acts.

The show was opened by the brilliant Academy Music Programme band ‘Dare’, with Ellie Lamb-Wright, Ruben Elbrond-Palmer, Jack Norton, Lewis Kennett, Lee Varela, Scott Kennett, Harvey Bolton and Courtland Adams (drumming in a Tuxedo) performing two numbers.

Maizy Theze performed an amazing Hip Hop routine, and Amber Akinci, Jadine Long, Niamh Tait and Georgia Bradley from the Academy Dance Programme delivered a captivating contemporary dance.

Huge thanks to Andy Freeman, Neil Sutcliffe and Sarah Walker for preparing, transporting and supporting the acts.

A thank you to Danny Carroll, Year 12 Media Studies for the PowerPoint that accompanied the Awards.

The highlight of the evening were the Hosts; Amber Akinci, Courtland Adams and Molly Mallon.

To see the delighted faces of the award recipients standing on stage while the hosts stood behind them, confidently and flawlessly narrating the details of their accomplishment was inspiring to watch.

Many thanks to Tony Greenlaw and his team for putting the hosts forward.

The confidence and talent the hosts, acts and awards recipients displayed on the night is a credit to the input of all staff across Academy.

Please congratulate these students when you see them, particularly Daniel Harris who unfortunately did not attend on the night.

Thank you all again for your support and here’s to even greater success in 2016.
