Canterbury High secure historic win in opening American Flag Football fixture

On Wednesday, an under 15 team from Canterbury High School travelled to Simon Langton to play Borden Grammar in (we believe) the first ever American Flag Football match between schools in Kent. The game took place on the new artificial pitch.

2 touch downs from Ethan Field and Corey Mellaneo plus a further touch down from Luke Gore ensured we came away with a 25-6 win and the coveted Summer 2015 AFD Festival Trophy.

AFD Limited have been working with our students throughout the summer and in the beginning, we had more coaches than players!

However, popularity has grown and the boys who played and encouraged others to play deserve a huge pat on the back for their enthusiasm and commitment so please congratulate them when you see them. https://youtu.be/cPZOk6tQDWY

The players involved on Wednesday were -

  • Adam Robinson

  • Niall Woodcock

  • George Seymour

  • Corey Mellaneo

  • Alfy Richards

  • Luke Jones

  • Joe Christian

  • Sam Gaunaca

  • Ethan Field

  • Luke Gore

  • Harry Pryor-Rogers

A number of staff were responsible for making this happen. Mike Illsley has spent a lot of time running sessions on Tuesday afternoons and a special thanks must go to Nat Bonneywell for driving the squad yesterday.

There was also experienced support on Tuesdays from Adam Crawford, Matt Wright (self-confessed Jacksonville Jaguars fanatic bordering on obsessive) and Matt Harris.

Thank you also to the excellent turn out from the PE Department on Wednesday night to support our students.
