District Final

Year 8 Cricket Team Lose to Simon Langton in District Final

For the second year running, the year 8 cricket team lost to Simon Langton in the district final. Unfortunately, the team failed to respond to a disciplined Langton bowling unit and lost key wickets in trying to chase down 135 off 20 overs.

Two wickets for Brooke Tiernan and good bowling from Bradley Goldsack, Ryan Townson and Freddie Adams meant for the majority of the Langton innings, Canterbury High School had things under control. Some poor bowling and sloppy fielding allowed Langton to get an extra 20 runs which made life more difficult in the run chase.

Baily Sinnock and Bradley Goldsack put on 40 for the first wicket but with the run rate escalating, Baily was run out after a poor call from Bradley. The ley moment of the match came in the next over when Bradley inexplicably ran star batter Jordan Gillmore out who had not even faced a ball. This lifted the opposition and practically crushed Canterbury High! Despite a bit of resistance from William Bainbridge in the middle order, the rest of the batters fell rather tamely and Canterbury High were bowled out for 80 in the 15th over. A tough time for Bradley but he has done so well for the school over the last two seasons and hopefully he will learn from these experiences.

So second place again against our great rivals from across the city. There is a photo attached of the team who have had a really impressive season despite the loss. They don’t look that happy in the photo but that might be down to the post match team talk, the sun and the loss! (Apologies for the shadow of the photographer in the attached picture.)

Thanks to all of the staff who have supported the students by praising them when they have seen them around the school. Back to the drawing board.
