Bright Sparks Experience Prize
To follow up on the Bright Sparks finals, The Canterbury Academy was one of eight finalist from many entrants and the students earnt themselves the Experience Prize.
Our students were the youngest there, up against all grammar school 6th formers. They were amazing ambassadors for our school in every way. There was a panel of 6 judges, four of which had their own individual experience prizes.
The group collected data from our school playing field on the biodiversity of plants.
Hannah Woodgate, Hannah Williams, Megan Hills, Francesca Mcfadyen, Rebecca Rodrigo, Thomas Hughes and Fin Woodcock took this further. They worked extremely hard analysing the data, producing line transects, belt transects, research into the conservation of the bumble bees, alongside producing a booklet and the presentation for the actual day.
Our students did so well with Hannah Woodgate and Thomas Hughes leading the way with the presentation, of which they only had 2 minutes. The judges then had 4 minutes in which to ask questions. Thomas Hughes came through with some excellent answers.
Whilst we were not crowned overall champions, we were awarded one of the experience prizes, sending 3 other groups home with nothing.
Yes, our Year 8 beat Grammar School 6th formers! Please, if you see them, tell them well done.
