Bright Sparks

Simon Dolby from the KM was in school on Monday to film our Y8 students, who had made it to the final of the ‘Bright Sparks’ science competition. The students who have made it into the final are:

Hannah Woodgate

Hannah Williams

Thomas Hughes

Fin Woodcock

Rebecca Rodrigo

Megan Hills

Francesca McFadyen

The students were fantastic during filming and were undertaking biodiversity work on the school field and analysing results in R91. Hannah and Tom led the way in explaining the project the team had put together on camera.

To add some context to the students achievement in reaching the final:

1. They are the only non-selective team to make it to the final with entries as far as away as Dartford and Tunbridge Wells

2. They are the only KS3 team to make it to the final- in fact all the other teams are KS5

3. They are the only team to have more than one girl in the team ( all grammar school boys bar one other 6th form girl)

The final is on 3rd July at Discovery Park in Sandwich. They will be competing against age 16+ grammar school students and are incredibly motivated and excited by this prospect! I would like to say a huge thank you to all in science and everyone that has supported this in particular Emma, Alex and Holly for helping to set up R91 and Karen and Lucy for leading the way and helping to pull this all together.

I can not overestimate how much this means to the students involved. They are ( and rightly so) very proud of their achievement. If you see them please congratulate them on this.
