Year 8 Cricket Knocks Ashford Independent School out of County Cup

On Friday May 8th, a year 8 cricket team that included several year 7 students beat Ashford School by 51 runs in the first round of the Kent Cup.

Canterbury High won the toss and elected to bat and Bradley Goldsack and Baily Sinnock set off quickly. After 6 overs, the score was already 43 with Bradley in particular punishing any loose bowling. Aggressive running and more boundaries led to both openers putting on 134 for the first wicket before Baily was eventually dismissed for 34. Some powerful hitting from Jordan Gillmore helped Bradley keep the momentum going and the final score ended up as 147 for 2 wickets off 20 overs. Bradley remained undefeated on 70.

Ashford were immediately in trouble and were soon 6 for 3. Ryan Townson bowled extremely well and was well supported by Bradley. Some middle order resistance from Ashford kept things interesting and in extremely difficult conditions due to the rain, Canterbury High struggled to contain some decent batting. However, a direct hit run out from Andrew Llong and three important wickets for Kaydn Dennis turned the game round meaning Ashford were eventually bowled out for 96.

This was a fantastic result for the school team against a private school who train regularly every day. The whole team contributed to what was an impressive win. The team was as follows.

1. Bradley Goldsack (captain) 8JAE

2. Baily Sinnock 8M1

3. Andrew Llong 8T3
