Shakespeare Tours Canterbury Hot-spots

A group of Academy students across the primary and secondary schools spent yesterday absorbing local culture and performances from across Shakespeare's catalogue of works.

There were famous speeches from 9 of Shakespeare’s history plays performed at locations around the city in front of members of the general public, including in the crypt of Canterbury Cathedral, Canterbury Castle, the Dane John Gardens, the Dane John Mound, Eastbridge hospital, Curzon cinema, Westgate Gardens, Greyfriars Chapel and the Buttermarket. The performers then took part in an evening showcase held in the Marlowe Studio last night, which was well attended by families of pupils and the staff from schools involved.

Imagination and creativity was obvious in all the performances and one even included aliens battling at Harfleurs! The day involved around 100 pupils from our cluster schools (CPS, CHS, Orchard School, Duke of York’s, Invicta Grammar, Bapchild & Tonge, Canterbury Road, Ethelbert Road and Luddenham). We are receiving great feedback from teachers of these schools about the project. A number of the primaries have mentioned that some of their talented performers (and there are a lot of them!) are now hoping to come to us in year 7.

CHS pupils involved were Claude Evele, Robbie White, Aaron Taylor, Harry Shaw, Alfie Steadman, Tom Croucher, Robert Dunk, Dom Dryland, William Wade, Jessica Craske & Adam Aitken.
