Basketball Victory

Canterbury High came back from a double digit deficit twice to pull off a 68-66 win over Barking Abbey in EABL action on Wednesday 26th November.

Trailing by 11 late in the third quarter, Canterbury's advantage inside took over to erase the lead and go up 68-63 before a consolation 3 from Josh Foulds on the buzzer. The first half had been a similar story with Barking leading by 12 before Canterbury stormed back to go into halftime up 1.

Canterbury's post players were the key to the victory with both starters notching double-doubles. Dom Ives led the scoring with 17 points on 8/10 shooting, adding 13 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals and a block. Dave Couchman adding 13 points, 15 rebounds and 3 assists.

Canterbury Head Coach Jesse Sazant was understandably pleased after the game saying, "I'm really happy for the guys tonight. They had to show some real mental toughness and resilience to come back twice like that. Dom was fantastic again for us tonight. He really maximises his ability with his high effort levels."

He added, "The two teams really competed tonight with lots of momentum swings. It was a great advert for the EABL and the experiences these players are so lucky to be part of."

James Lloyd finished with 12 points on his debut after returning from Porto in Portugal this week and Robertas Vysniauskas had 9 for Canterbury. Barking had two double-doubles of their own as Foulds had 18 points and 10 rebounds and Reis Pinnock with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Dirmund O'Shea chipped in 13 points for the visitors.

With the win Canterbury moves to 4-3 in the crowded South Conference table, while Barking Abbey falls to 4-2. Canterbury face a key game as they travel to 3-3 BHASVIC next week while Barking look to bounce back as they travel to winless SEEVIC.
